“I never thought I had to say goodbye, because how soon is soon when you never want to say goodbye?”
That line came to me like the beginning of a song, but maybe it is more than that. Maybe it is the honest place grief starts to heal.
Because when you love someone deeply, whether it is a person, a horse, a dog, a cat, or a little soul that walked beside you for only a season, goodbye never feels like something you are ready for. It does not matter how much time you had. It does not matter if you knew it was coming. Soon is always too soon when love is still reaching out its hands.
It is funny how emotions work.
Love is such a blessing because it gives us something so real, so present, so tangible. A warm body beside us. A face we know by heart. A sound in the house. A routine. A greeting. A look. A way of being loved that belongs only to them.

And a tiny little soul like Tuki can leave pawprints across an entire lifetime.
I believe we were created to love. To help. To create. To open our hearts to something higher than ourselves. To God, who leads us through Jesus, and who understands loss in a way we sometimes forget.
The very act of God giving His Son to a damaged world is the moment we are reminded that love is not small. Love is costly. Love is eternal. Love suffers, but it also redeems.
And when we lose someone precious, whether they had hands, paws, hooves, or wings, we begin to understand that love does not disappear just because we can no longer touch it.
It moves inward…
It becomes memory.
It becomes tenderness.
It becomes the reason we notice beauty more carefully.
It becomes the reason we hold others a little closer.
It becomes part of every fiber of our existence.
So if you are grieving today, whether the loss is fresh or years behind you, please know this:
You are not weak because it still hurts.
You are not stuck because you still remember.
You are not broken because love left a mark.
